About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a profession and philosophy established by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still in 1874. It is a science based upon the laws of nature. Still viewed the human body as a machine. When all parts are in working order, the body, as a whole, operates harmoniously and predictably.
Additionally, when all parts are not in working order, marks the start of disfunction and disease.
Symptoms such as pain, swelling, fever, etc. are effects of an underlying cause. Osteopathy is a science which finds the cause, and corrects it, using skilled manipulation of the of the human body. This is known as Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment.
About Osteopathic Treatment
Osteopathic Treatment is a series of manual adjustments of the human body. Each treatment is unique to the patient, based upon their health history, alignment, and functional assessment. Treatment is based upon three key Osteopathic Principles:
- The human body is a dynamic unit of function
- Anatomy and Physiology, structure and function, are related on all levels
- The body is self-healing and self-regulating
Osteopathic Treatment is relaxing and rhythmic. This appeals to body neurologically, and it helps stimulate the body’s self-healing ability. It also helps to coordinate the corrections throughout the body and leads to lasting results.
